000 Is Anyone Else Out There

The population of our town has been cut by at least 90%. A few of us have started a communal living area in a cul-de-sac. We are clearing out the homes nearby if anyone else comes to join us. One of our group will be at the pharmacy on Main St every day at 8:00 PM to welcome anyone who sees this.

Myself, my wife, and our son have all survived. Not everyone was so lucky. Next door is Bill, a retired mechanic, he lost his family. Next to him are Loraine and Ava. Beyond them are a few more families and others. We have an electrician, a plumber, a few folks who have always worked in corporate situations but either have had helpful hobbies or are otherwise adapting. Everyone contributes. There are a dozen of us here now. We have seen others in town but it seems they either wish to be left alone or are perhaps initiating groups elsewhere.

It has only been a few weeks, but already our community is becoming more self sufficient. Loraine and Ava have taken over an abandoned garden and are expanding it. We have begun dragging solar panels closer and getting consistent power to our neighborhood. With my background I have been asked to reach out for other survivors wishing to join.

More details will follow in case you wish to replicate what I am doing here, but for the moment, suffice it to say something is working if you are here. My goals are two-fold however. I also wish to document as much as I can, and as much as I understand of what we are doing. On the surface this is an attempt to preserve the knowledge we have such as it is, but I will be selfish and say that this has already become an outlet of expression for me. A journal of sorts. I suppose this is a blog, actually.
